"When you're going through a transition, it may be best to wait until you have a clearer picture of your new priorities and needs before starting to organize.  If you can tolerate the chaos a little longer."

Julie Morgenstern, Organizing from the Inside Out.

TRANSITION

"We often have many more choices than we can see in the rocky first stages of a life transition." Toni Clark

Every life has a share of ups and downs.  Every life requires change. Sometimes we are launched into a transition by a that voice inside that says, "do something different!"  Sometimes transition comes from forces beyond our control.  Our industry changes and we get laid off, someone important to us dies, or we are of an age where what was once important isn't anymore.  We look to what is next and sometimes the path is not clear.

"It’s time to move forward," we say; then we ask, “Now what? What do I want next?”
Sometimes renewed focus is all that’s needed. With a clear vision we move on and our transition was a small one.

Sometime transitions are bigger, and require more time.  We lose an important relationship, a job, or we retire.  We decide it's time for a new career entirely.  We want a whole new direction.  The transition process may require that we let go of what was, and take the time to reflect, go inward, and consider what's most important to our future.

Sometimes we need to expand our thinking, our sense of what’s possible, and push ourselves to try things in an entirely different way in order to achieve a vision. We see ourselves in a different lifestyle, for example. We decide we need to talk to others who have followed that path. We decide we need to save money. We discover resources we never knew. We make new friends. Our vision shifts, turns and becomes a little closer. We begin.

Experiementation may become important.  We try on our new ideas and new hats. We see what we think about doing things differently.  We consider the possibilities!

There will be hurdles along the way. What's getting in the way? What can I do about it?

Eventually we emerge.  Clearer about our goals and purpose, we create a different life.

What have been the major transitions in your life so far? What did you do to move forward with your life at that time? In whatever transition you are in, you have strengths and resilience to draw upon.
