LEADERSHIP

"There is no script for being a great leader, and no way to play act in the role.  It's the inner work that creates the difference between a manager and a leader."  Barbara Mackoff and Gary Wenet in The Inner Work of Leaders.

Much is required of today's leaders.  Often they have succeeded in their area of exertise only to find the expecations at the top to be daunting. Coaching provides a framework for leaders to reflect on their vision and examine new possilities in their role.

Leadership requires self knowledge and experimentation, new learning and inquiry.  Coaching provides a framework to ask the important questions: What kind of a leader do you want to be?  Who were your own models for leadership and what did they teach you?  What leadership skills do you have in spades?  What do you lack?  How can you inspire and support the development of those you supervise and lead? What kind of environement do you hope to create with your leadership?  What's your responsibility?

The role of leader assumes a flexibility with relationships that may not come naturally.  What's your leadership style?  How does that impact those your supervise?  How can you be clearer?  How can you lead and still be humane--perhaps to people who used to be your peers. How can you be charismatic and inspirational--dare you try?

How does being a leader integrate with your sense of purpose and personal values?

"Great ability develops and reveals itself increasingly with every new assignment." Baltasar Gracian, the Oracle
